2016 Republican Primary Results

With four states up for grabs for the GOP tonight, Sen. Ted Cruz is looking to close in on Republican party frontrunner Donald Trump.

Republican presidential hopefuls will compete in primaries and caucuses tonight in Hawaii, Idaho, Michigan, and Mississippi, with 150 delegates to be awarded. If the votes lean heavily in one direction, tonight’s numbers could mark a major shift in the power balance of the campaigns.

While Trump took an early lead in the nominating contest, Cruz has maintained a steady momentum to close the gap. Though Trump has won twice the number of states as Cruz, he leads the Texas senator by only 84 delegates; 384 to Cruz’s 300. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, coming in third, has won two states with 151 delegates. Ohio Gov. John Kasich, in a distant fourth place, hasn’t won any states yet.

If Cruz, Rubio, or Kasich can’t close on Trump tonight, they’ll have another chance soon. After today, the GOP candidates will be preparing for the three nominating conventions on tap this weekend — for D.C., Guam, and Wyoming. But more importantly, they'll be looking ahead to the six big contests coming up on March 15. Both Rubio and Kasich will see their own home states holding primaries.

Results will start coming in as soon as polls close, and we’ll be updating here with the expected winners as they become clear. Ahead, catch up on the results from contests held so far. And be sure to check back to see which Republican candidate emerges the winner of the day.

Results for the Democratic contests happening today can be found here.
