Workout clothing is not one-type-fits-all. We live in the ClassPass era, which means we're not just sticking to one kind of workout. One day, we might hit a Hamilton -themed cycling class; the next, we're going all Gigi Hadid in the boxing ring (and let's not forget about the new Pilates studio we stumbled upon last weekend).
The state of our workout-clothing drawers, however, hasn't always been up to par — and, no matter how tempting it is, we don't just want to wear the same black leggings to everything. Each class calls for its own essentials — and its own aesthetic. If we're going to dip our toes into a variety of physical activities, we might as well look (and feel) our best at all of them.

Cycling
Don't make the mistake of mounting that bike in the wrong bottoms — they will only end up getting in the way of your workout. Instead of bulky pants or shorts (which have the tendency to ride up easily), grab a tight, microfiber pair that'll stay in place as you climb those (pretend) hills.
No Ka'oi Haku Paneled Microfiber Shorts, $98 $48, available at Bagheera.

Yoga
Okay, okay. We know yoga pants for yoga are in no way a novel idea, but it can be pretty tough to find a pair that won't rip after just a few wears, isn't too sheer, doesn't sag at the crotch, or come down too far in the back when you bend over. From our experience, these OV leggings won't do any of these things, but they will look damn good.
Outdoor Voices Warmup Legging, $90, available at Outdoor Voices.

Swimming
Don't sacrifice style when you hit the pool to get in some laps. This contrast-panel swimsuit looks trendy, while still offering full coverage and the utmost comfort. Wear it to work out, or as a bodysuit for a night out.
Flagpole Stella Suit, $385, available at Flagpole.

Barre
If you're new to barre, you might not realize that, even before a leotard or leggings, grippy socks are essential; they keep you steady and in place as you plié all class long. Pro tip: You're better off investing in your own pair rather than borrowing from the studio.
Sweaty Betty Barre Gripper Socks, $20, available at Sweaty Betty.

Dance
For a super upbeat, party-all-night-long dance class (remember that Beyoncé one you've been dying to try?), stick to track pants you can actually move in. And, thanks to athleisure, it's not too hard to find a pair that looks just as cool in class as it will at brunch afterward.
Aday Hail Yes Trackpants, $95, available at Aday.

High-Intensity Cardio
Whether you're powering through interval training at the gym or hitting the track for sprint drills, you need hardworking gear that can keep up (and keep you comfortable). This lightweight blush sports bra boasts crisscross straps and thick banding to keep you supported through the finish line.
H&M, $19.99, available at H&M
Running
Whether you're a newbie or jogging-obsessed, you know that the right pair of sneakers can make (or break) your run. Nike's new sock-fit style does the job right: It offers great ankle support and a super-light feel.
Nike LunarEpic Flyknit MP, $175, available at Nike.

CrossFit
The CrossFit crowd knows how distracting a shirt that's flying all over the place can be. Ditch the top layer altogether and opt for a sports crop top that offers coverage and support without any excess fabric.
P.E. Nation Pit Stop Crop, $90, available at P.E. Nation.

Tennis
Though tennis has the cutest workout gear, the sunshine involved with hitting the courts in the summer is no joke. So, if you're already picking up a skirt and some white-bottom sneakers, be sure to add a transparent visor to your cart, too. It'll protect your eyes from the brightness, help prevent sunburn (don't forget sunscreen, too!), and keep your hair from getting sweaty. Oh, and did we mention how good it'll look on the 'gram?
Tory Sport Transparent Visor, $35, available at Tory Sport.

Hot Pilates
Things are about to get sweaty, which means you don't want to be wearing layers of baggy clothing. A flexible, flattering one-piece will stay close to the body so that you can focus on your moves and not think twice about your outfit.
Live The Process Chelsea Leyland Mind's Eye Embroidered Leotard, $360, available at Farfetch.

Boxing
Loose, mid-length shorts are key for kicking, punching, and other intense movements. This particular pair is practical, but also feels more style-focused with sheer mesh and a summery hue.
Prae Carpo Peel Shorts, $ 190 $75, available at Prae.

Zumba
Get your hands on some cool athletic pants that'll move with you. Pair them with a sports bra and your favorite sneakers, and that's all you need to Zumba like there's no tomorrow.
Free People Crescent Pant, $88, available at Free People.
